Diese Studie behandelt Fragen der dialektalen Variation in der Intonation. Auf der Basis der autosegmental-metrischen Phonologie wird eine Analyse einer Intonationsgrammatik des Schwäbischen und Obersächsischen vorgeschlagen. Diese phonologische Analyse wird einerseits anhand von phonetischen Fakten der Akzentimplementierung untermauert. Andererseits werden die Intonationskonturen funktional durch eine Analyse der Bedeutung voneinander abgegrenzt. Damit trägt diese Studie zur Modellierung dialektaler Variation in der Intonationsphonologie bei.
