Auszug aus dem Preface

The collection of papers submitted in this volume is loosely connected by their common attempt to explore, from different angles, some crucial problems dealing with the range and the borderline areas of (linguistic) semantics. The apparently accidental compilation of rather different individual topics chosen for discussion is easily explained as arising from the necessarily many-sided and widespread linguistic disciplines that have to be covered by a university language department. The heterogeneity, however, might hopefully make up for a narrow and theory-bound concentration on special traditional problems. The topics dealt with in our volume range from rigorous formal semantic treatments to problems of ideological interference with meaning.
